Toon 6/25/05 and Kelo Versus New London

Related Story: Allstate Insurance fires Christian employee for personal religious viewpoints.

It's difficult to keep up with the news, from the constitution destroying Kelo versus New London decision by the Supreme Court (cartoon in progress) to the expected decision by the same on Monday regarding The Ten Commandments, to the many smaller stories of courage lost in the recent and relentless breakers of history, such as the topic of today's cartoon or the brave nurse fired from a Catholic hospital for refusing to dispense an abortion pill (a hat-tip to the passionate KC of Extreme Truths for that one, as well as for posting a few cartoons.)

As for Kelo versus New London; words cannot convey my disgust for the individuals who would choose to vote away private property rights in favor of a greater, collectivist good, this being the very definition of Imperial /Marxist systems of tyranny against which we've shed much U.S. blood.

The four dissenting votes were all Republican appointees including the relentlessly vilified Thomas and Scalia, with both Clinton appointees voting against the very bedrock of our freedom- the right to the security afforded through personal ownership of the land which rests beneath our businesses and homes. Justice Kennedy makes an appearance here in the role of Judas.

Toon 6/22/05 and mailbag

The updated and final version. Possibly.

We knew Randor as a 10 year old, jumping high on our trampoline at our lake cabin in Minnesota. He reached more altitude than most of the neighborhood kids. In fact, he still reaches new heights as a mature Christian man, father, and warrior. Your photo of Randy and his son Zak is especially touching. He was raised as an honest, God-fearing young man along with his siblings. His parents were and still are, our best of friends. They can be justly proud of the family they raised. "Randors" faith, ethics and dedication come as no surprise to those of us who watched him grow.
We enjoy your website, your cutting sense of humor, and message of faith. We have chuckled over your cartoons, filled with tongue in cheek messages for everyone. Gentle ribbing will likely get your points across. May you
have all the continued success, and Gods blessing on you all. -Art & Julie

I wanted to know if it is okay to print any of your cartoons in our
church newsletter? I ran across them and thought they were great. -Debbra

Do you realize that Schiavo's autopsy revealed that she was blind and had a brain half the size of an ordinary human being?
Since she was blind and had an abnormally small brain, she couldn't respond to visible stimuli or interact with anything.
Furthermore, religion is garbage as well as the tool of fascist war-mongers (bush) and fundamentalists neo-nazis (falwell and phelps).

Thanks again to you and your vast media empire for your support. I am truly humbled and there are tears in my eyes as I write this. I am amazed and overwhelmed at times by the love and support of the many Americans that give unselfishly to others.
I took the opportunity to write to Steve and thank him for his assistance in getting the word out as well.
You all are the best. -Respects,Randy

I'm flattered. I expected you'd be offended by my last correspondence and probably wouldn't want to speak with me again. As far as Hannity and Colmes, I'd prefer to be Hannity... he's better looking and gets better publishing deals.
Just as a note on your last blog post, though... I didn't discover your website through Portal of Evil. Actually I discovered Portal of Evil through your website... but I only went there once and didn't like it. I may be an atheist but that doesn't mean I enjoy wallowing in negativity. You've managed to keep up a good attitude in the face of it. I hope you always continue to do so.
I discovered Faithmouse from a link on bushcountry.org while collecting points of view on the Passion of the Christ media-generated pseudo-controversy. You were running your Passion series at the time. I reviewed a few different conservative Christian comic strips but found yours to be the only one of artistic merit... plus it was interesting so I continued to follow it. I figure... why would I expose myself only to points of view I expect to agree with? -Salut, Vincent

Oh wow! It's Dan Lacey, the author of FaithMouse! I'm honored, I'm a great fan of your work. It's really surreal and confusing, I like that.
Blessed be, live long and prosper and what not. -Occidental Martyr, in response to a Live Journal forum post

Thanks for the outstanding cartoon. It fits perfectly with what we've posted today about Terri. -Stephen Stone at Renew America

Toon 6/17/05 Terri Schiavo

As an act of mercy I've pared back the toon site to under twenty seconds on a 56k modem. For those keeping score that's about a third of the previous loading time. Huzzah! I've also successfully copied the blogrolls on this, the blog site, to the HTML site, which has been decidedly non-blog up to this time (as a regularly updated image isn't considered as valid as a text post.) In a fair world they would be, but as a matter of semantics graphics aren't necessarily....
Oh, bore. The toon site loads a heck of a lot faster. That's all I was trying to say.

In order to keep out riff-raff from the Balkans, Germany has created a quiz for incoming pilgrims to the World Youth Conference in Cologne, Pope Benedict XVI's first trip abroad.

2. How and when did Jesus die?
3. In the story of the Creation, what did God create on the seventh day?
4. As a result of the sin committed by Adam and Eve, in what condition do we now live?
5. How many kinds of sin are there? Name them
6. Who is the father of Jesus Christ?
7. Who sentenced Jesus to death?
8. Who were the sons of Adam and Eve?
9. How many sacraments are there? Name them
10. Name the seven deadly sins.
11. Who betrayed Jesus to the Pharisees?
12. Where does Jesus sit in Heaven?

The new 'Howard Donkey' cartoon promised for Tuesday ran into a problem when the cartoonist suddenly lost all enthusiasm for completing the image. This happens more than you know. After much navel gazing I discovered the crux of the problem was that Howard himself wasn't up to snuff. I knew I had a better Howard in me somewhere...
This toon is still on time delay, and with the many promises I need to deliver on before launching a major project next week, you may not see the completed toon before another Tuesday has come and gone. Good things come to those who wait.
In the meantime, here's the recalibrated Howard, if not the completed cartoon itself-

Faith Is A Star

'...in our troubled time, the right of men to think and worship as their conscience dictates is being sorely pressed. We can retain these privileges only by being constantly on guard and fighting off any encroachment on these precepts. To retreat from any of the principles handed down by our forefathers, who shed their blood for the ideals we still embrace, would be a complete victory for those who would destroy liberty and justice for the individual.' -Walt Disney, 1963

Except from an article by Walt Disney contributed to Roland Gammon's 'Faith Is A Star.'

Boy Scouts, Secret Agents and Belly Dancing

Kudos to Travis at Boy Scout Blogger (a real life blogging boy scout) for both truth in monickering and for posting the recent Thomas Jefferson cartoon. A follow-up toon expanding on the same theme is currently on the kitchen table, beneath a cat.

I couldn't help but notice that BSB is the talk of the town in D.C. as attested to by this photo courtesy of the debonair Agent Tim -

This sign was obviously the key to BSB's election to the post at this year's Boys State. Congratulations!

On an alternate route home yesterday evening I was wondering if any acquaintances of my own had attained similar fame, or at the least might be actively dedicating their talents back to God when my headlights alighted upon this most unsettling sight-

Blogshare Press Release

'faithmouse' was the subject of much speculation when analysts at several firms were heard to be very positive about it's recent performance. It's share price rose from B$22.95 to B$33.27. Much of the hype was said to originate from William Fisher whose Gospel (artefact) was said to be involved. William Fisher declined to comment on the recent speculation.'

The blogshares site lists 351 outgoing links from faithmouse adjunct blogmentary, which doesn't include lots of HTML sites which link and/or show the toon, nor does it include links to the 'real' cartoon toon site which this blog adjuncts (fab receives less than a tenth of the traffic as www.faithmouse.com) Nor does this number include the 'dissenting' sites and forums which link to the toon and post free samples, such as Snopes and DailyKOS. Nor can it take into account the many forums which on a daily basis post individual cartoons as evidence for or against certain points of view. I am opposed to people assuming my current claim that faithmouse appears and/or is linked on over 500 sites to be nothing more than a fib, especially when big blogshare money is involved. I'm not following Martha to the big house (unless it's the nice one on Martha's Vineyard and I can bring my swimming trunks.)
Considering how much more traffic the cartoon site receives versus this blog, I'm considering syndicating this site directly onto the front page of faithmouse.com, in the space where all the soft and fuzzy comments currently reside. There's a possibility this addition might have a very positive effect on my fantasy stock value. The monkey wrench is that I'm having trouble getting the images in the RSS feed to show on anything other than readers like Bloglines. However, I understand there's a Javascript 'plug'...
If I can get this to work, some people are going to be very, very fake rich.

"I have no fear that the result of our experiment will be that men may be trusted to govern themselves without a master. Could the contrary of this be proved, I should conclude either that there is no God, or that He is a malevolent being." -Thomas Jefferson to David Hartley, 1787.

"Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God?" -Thomas Jefferson: Notes on Virginia, 1782.

"We have solved...the great and interesting question whether freedom of religion is compatible with order in government, and obedience to the laws, And we have experienced the quiet as well as the comfort which results from leaving every one to profess freely and openly those principles of religion which are the inductions of his own reason, and the serious convictions of his own inquiries." -Thomas Jefferson to Virginia Baptists, 1808.

"I consider the government of the United States as interdicted by
the Constitution from intermeddling in religious institutions, their doctrines, discipline, or exercises." -Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Miller, 1808.

"Religion is a subject on which I have ever been most scrupulously reserved. I have considered it as a matter between every man and his Maker, in which no other, and far less the public, had a right to intermeddle." -Thomas Jefferson to Richard Rush, 1813.

"I am for freedom of religion, and against all maneuvers to bring about a legal ascendency of one sect over another." -ThomasJefferson to Elbridge Gerry, 1799.

"All men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinion in matters of religion; and ...the same shall in no wise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities."

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." –to Archibald Stuart, 1791.

"[Oppose] with manly firmness [any] invasions on the rights of the people." -Draft Virginia Constitution, 1776. Papers, 1:338

"I have sworn upon the altar of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." -September 23, 1800, as inscribed in the Jefferson Memorial.

"I have a right to nothing which another has a right to take away." -to Uriah Forrest, 1787. Papers, 12:477.

"In matters of principle, stand like a rock."

Holycoast

I'm glad I stumbled across Rick Moore's informative and funny Holy Coast blog. There are more worthwhile news stories in the anti-Christian culture than faithmouse can comment upon (the material just writes itself) and Rich has a great editor's sense of picking out the ones most commentable. Rick would make a great pro-Christian heckler in the coliseum, in the short time he would have before being forced to join the lions. Great stuff, and he has funny ideas to, um, 'advertise.' Holy Coast is a better companion blog to faithmouse than the one you're reading now.

Summertime, and the blogging is easy

Like most bloggers with a leg in the real world and a modicum of sanity, I've spent more time outdoors than in as of late. Therefore blogging has been pretty darn light. The lawnmower accident has left me with as residue of tingly nerves below my ankle, which isn't incapacitating but I suspect may be with me for as long as I own the foot. My teeth no longer have vents and I don't have too much paunch around my midsection; I've killed all the dandelions in the lawn and all my grapes came back after a very dry winter, so life is good. Now it's just a matter of cloning myself in order to create more cartoons (I've decided to temporarily ignore the moral implications.) At least the world can expect a squadron of your's trulies not to toss loaded diapers or the contents of ashtrays from car windows. I'm not a litterer.
I've drawn more political cartoons as of late, which makes me appreciate full time political cartoonists and their constant quest for a likeness. My background as a portrait artist helps, but it's tough work really. Adding an anthropomorphic Howard Dean or John Kerry to a cartoon increases it's drawing time significantly. A badly drawn tree can be excused by the viewer as a stylistic device, but a badly drawn George Bush has no place to hide (poor George!) Even the Society of Bush Bashing Cartoon Characters wouldn't accept a mangled Bush.
Speaking of cartoonists, I'll soon be adding links to two fans of the cartoon from the east (much farther than Newark.) Neither are conservative or Christian cartoonists, and one in fact has received multiple awards from (forgive me) Amnesty International for his cartooning. I'm apreciative that the cartoon is being recognized as an activist piece even by those far outside of it's frame of reference, although the combined theme of religious liberty and virtuous mice is I believe a universal one. I need to retweak the homepage in order to display these new links, but the results should be posted shortly.
Oh, and if you haven't seen the new link on the cartoon site, please check out our new weekly Catholic cartoon at Ann's Catacombers I'm going to try to take this cartoon in a different direction, which should make for some entertaining viewing and good fodder for our friends at Portal of Evil.

Cartoon Congestion 5/26-6/1/05

Here are most of the images I've posted during the past week, including today's cartoon which is still in progress. I'll add commentary and a few new links later this evening.
