Cartoon in progress. I've had my hands full lately so I've been posting more sketches as toons.

If you're a regular LiveJournal poster or reader, you'll recognize this image as a take-off on the eternal rehashing of the original I am in your base killing your d00ds image, which has taken on many forms, most notably feline.

Eddie_Lummox at the faithmouse forum at Portal Of Evil (adult content) posted this image in response to my IM IN UR, wondering where the kitten is. I think his faithmouse is a lot better than mine, so I've copied and pasted it for today's cartoon-

A Faithmouse / George W. Bush cartoon, in progress. Should have this posted by 11 AM Saturday. I may have to settle for a combination finished drawing/ sketch, as I have the weekly Sunday Funnies cartoon for Stop The ACLU to start and complete by Sunday as well.

Above is a photograph of the actual drawing for the cartoon, pre-scan. My usual technique is to pencil sketch the cartoon on graph paper and then ink with a red Marvy marker. I'll sometimes draw a few different versions of the same detail and then use Photoshop to arrange the elements; for example, in the drawing above you can see that I have two mouths for Faithmouse-the angrier, more open mouth is the one I'll use in the final cartoon.

Found this comment on deLicio.us regarding the great whatever-it-is-I-do-

Captures much of the old purpose and style of the 18th century political cartoon, arguably the historical highpoint of the medium. Unfourtunatly, it also clutches to the idea of current US politics as a replacement for wrestling. It's all about the teams - - JohnEmersonsFoot

Well, that's a heady compliment and much appreciated. As for the 'unfortunate' I would suggest that the same cartoons Mr. Foot is comparing faithmouse to were themselves stylized propaganda, and I mean that in the nicest sense of the word. They weren't pretending to be unbiased, and from that they drew momentum. In my own defense, I sometimes include the viewpoint of the meat packing industry in my online 'The Jungle'. Also, political conflict over Christianity is real; it isn't just a device in an unknown online cartoon depicting irrelevant teams engaged in inconsequential matches. I wish that it were.

Thanks to Surrogate Family at virus-x LiveJournal for showing the Prayer Cooties toon, as well as TeresaJ at The Diary of a teen titan / Starfire's world. Bokhorne has a nice word or two for the cartoon at Clever Conservatives. Thanks to Allen at Is Anybody There? for both the nice plug and for adding the livefeed to his blog.

New faithmouse discussion board

faithmouse discussion board

Above is a hornest nest which I decided to photograph before removing, and then I noticed the hornets floating in the air about me. We've had a number of below freezing nights here in the Twin Cities area, but today it was 74 and I guess the nice weather brought them back to life.

Please feel free to post in the new discussion board. I suppose it could become a bit of a hornest's nest, but we need hornets in the world, and besides, look how beautiful this thing is.

Revised version of Monday's cartoon. Better art, I think.

Thanks to Allen at Is Anybody There? and friend of Republican candidate Mike Whalen for posting the cartoons on the 1st Congressional race in Iowa. Two months ago the Cedar Rapids Gazette gave serious consideration to running faithmouse, but decided against it because of budget constraints. It's almost unheard of for a major paper to run an independent cartoon, but we came close.

Lots of LiveJournal posts as of late. Thanks to Sayda Li at her Vampielinred LiveJournal for including the Baby Rushmore image, as well as revolutionnow05, Lemon Jelly and lonehanyou's See all the people who put up with me? Ditto to Sleeptodream170 at LiveJournal who has also posted Baby Rushmore. Yesterday's Stop The ACLU / Little Explorers appears on The Conservative Spread at The Personal Bee (The News Is Now Personal) via the Stop The ACLU Sunday Funnies post.
